Arrival to Hawaii
Hello family and friends, I left home happy and healthy and ready to start my adventure with the Peace Corps. I am using a public computer at the Sheraton Princess Kauiluani. ALOHA!!! and Mahalo (thank you) for all the love and support as I begin this adventure. Getting here was fun and I met an Elon University alumni who is living here in Hawaii. He told me what to do and see. I had a little Sushi to transition into a Pacific diet however I had some pancakes this morning which were very good. I woke up to the protesting in front of the Hyatt, the workers aren't on contract and have been protesting all morning. I woke up at around 5 and saw the protests and out in the distance I saw a group of surfers hitting the waves, however the waves didn't look that big, similar to jones beach for now. I start staging at 1230. I had a tough time finding some toothpaste in my luggage and I didn't want to unpack and repack things so i got a little tube and am all set. Hawaii is very beautiful but the area I am in is very affluent. It is a combination of NYC chic and Barcelona, las Ramblas, street performers and mimes as well as the beaches from Ibiza. Its a beautiful combination but the best and worst of all the worlds. I am gonna try and stay out of the sun and safe the swimming for the Pacific. I love you all and hope to hear from you via post cards, emails, and everything in between.

Mahalo for keeping us in the loop. Will watch the soccer games this weekend for you.
ReplyDeleteMom and I are going to the beach around 7:00 at hightide.
You are standing on the beaches of Hawaii that Grandpa Harry and Grandma Mary saw 38 years ago during one of their many trips. They were impressed how the horizon's curve is highlighted at sunset.
You are in our thoughts and prayers.
Be well and Aloha!
Love Mom & Pops
( bebe mucha agua!)
Buen viaje manana a Pohnpei . Un beso bien fuerte, mami y pops
Hey bro I just wanted to say I hope your training is going well. Everything at school is going great. I have a new screenwriting professor who is amazing. The guy taught at UCLA for 5 years and has had 40 scripts bought and he's directing Dakota Fanning this summer. I'm learning alot from him. Everything else at school is going great. I am doing an Elon Outdoors thing this weekend with Big L. We are going to Greensboro for the day and we are going to go kayaking and hiking. I'm also doing alot with Cinelon which is fun. I joined a Cinema team for Flag football. I doubt we'll do well, but that will be fun as well. I continue doing my writing and I'm going to mail you some scripts of mine soon. I really miss you alot bro and I just want to say I'm really proud of you. I love telling people about my brother whose in Peace Corp right now and how he's doing all these great things. I hope to hear from you soon.
ReplyDeleteLove you bro!

hi Paul,
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on your PCV service adventure. As a Palauan growing up many years ago,PCV had an impact on my life and they instilled a sense of purpose in me that i still value today.I do hope you get to serve in my beautiful Palau but if not, take a vacation there sometime. It'll be a challenging times for you and can be frustrating dealing with a slow pace of island life, just remember that you'll make a difference in people's lives for the better. I'm praying for you and your family. May our good lord keep you safe.
